Community & Student Projects

Every year, we work with volunteers from small communities around the province who are passionate about conserving the history reflected in their local cemeteries.

We also teach and guide a group of graduate students from the University of Western Ontario's Department of History who have been tasked with locating, restoring, and researching Confederation era gravestones to help commemorate the 150th anniversary of Canada.

This year, the group made a major discovery of 130 gravestones that had originally been interned in the historic Scottish St Andrews parish in London. While most of this important historic work is being done in London's Woodland Cemetery, the students have also done preliminary digs at St Paul's cathedral in downtown London, which was the site of one of city's first graveyards.

Follow the students' adventures on their blog here.
